Mare Libervm is part of a body of work that investigates the expanse of national maritime borders inflicted by the recent United Nations Law of the Sea Convention (UNCLOS) otherwise known as the Law Of The Sea– a treaty which has most recently come to light through the current tensions between China and Japan’s disputed island territory. The film follows a group of fishermen in the Mediterranean as they discuss the restrictions the treaty has placed on them due to their proximity and the resulting difficulties they endure.
